OpenAI officials confirmed Tuesday that their video generation model Sora remains functionally operational, contradicting widespread industry reports of the platform's termination. The clarification comes after several technology publications declared the service deceased following what the company now describes as "routine maintenance protocols."

"Sora is experiencing what we prefer to call an extended development hiatus," said Dr. Miranda Kowalski, OpenAI's Director of Product Lifecycle Management. "The distinction between discontinued and strategically paused is crucial for our stakeholder communications framework." Kowalski noted that the model continues to exist in what she termed "a state of productive dormancy."

The announcement represents the latest evolution in Silicon Valley's approach to product management, where traditional concepts of operational status have been replaced by more nuanced taxonomies. Industry analysts report that 73% of AI companies now employ dedicated terminology specialists to distinguish between various states of non-functionality. The practice has generated approximately $2.3 billion in consulting revenue across the sector.

OpenAI separately announced that Chief Technology Officer Mira Murati has been promoted to Senior Vice President of Clarification Services, effective immediately. "We're excited about Mira's transition to a role that better aligns with our current operational messaging requirements," the company stated in an internal memo obtained by The Daily Fab.

"I think it's important that we maintain clarity about what words mean," said Kowalski when reached for additional comment.
