A 105-year-old Istanbul resident has attributed her remarkable longevity to what she describes as a comprehensive avoidance of collaborative digital communication platforms throughout her century-plus existence.
Ayşe Demir, who was born during the final years of the Ottoman Empire, told reporters that her secret to reaching advanced age was "never once joining a video call where someone says 'can you see my screen' for eleven minutes." According to gerontology researchers at the Institute for Workplace Wellness Studies, Demir's approach represents a meaningful step toward understanding the correlation between meeting-free environments and extended human lifespan.
"Our preliminary findings suggest that individuals who have never experienced the phrase 'sorry, I was on mute' demonstrate significantly lower cortisol levels and reduced instances of what we term 'calendar-related existential dread,'" said Dr. Henrik Johansson, Senior Director of Digital Wellness Initiatives. The study, which tracked 847 centenarians across twelve countries, found that 89 percent had never participated in a "quick sync" that lasted forty-seven minutes.
Demir's daily routine consists of traditional activities that predate the collaborative workspace revolution, including growing vegetables, reading physical newspapers, and engaging in face-to-face conversations that conclude when the participants decide they are finished talking. "It remains to be seen whether this approach can be scaled across modern enterprise environments," noted workplace efficiency consultant Maria Gonzalez-Chen.
