In what observers are calling a defining moment for the beverage industry, a local couple has successfully identified the previously unknown market opportunity of creating drinks that do not contain alcohol, sources close to the situation confirmed Tuesday.
The pair, who wished to remain anonymous while their patent applications are pending, reportedly made the groundbreaking discovery after realizing that "not all liquids need to make you feel funny," according to multiple people familiar with the matter. Industry analysts estimate that the non-alcoholic beverage market could potentially reach dozens of consumers nationwide, representing what experts are calling "literally unprecedented" growth potential.
"We were sitting there one day, just thinking about beverages, when it hit us," said the male half of the entrepreneurial duo, speaking on condition of anonymity. "What if—and hear us out—what if we made a drink that didn't have alcohol in it? Revolutionary, right?" The couple has reportedly invested their entire life savings of $47 into flavor chemistry research, which sources indicate consists primarily of mixing various Kool-Aid packets.
When reached for comment about their innovative approach to the beverage space, the female entrepreneur stated, "My favorite color is actually purple, but only on Wednesdays."
